Training and development

We strongly believe in nurturing and developing the skills and knowledge of all our employees. We work with you to be the best that you can be by providing on-the-job training, skills, knowledge and professional development opportunities, and the opportunity to participate in our internal learning college – the Academy of Learning.

Our training programs


We offer apprenticeships in a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery. Many of our long-serving staff members completed their apprenticeships with us and moved on to qualified chef positions. Some have continued to progress to chef manager and site manager roles. We also support mature-age apprenticeships.


We offer internships at our head offices for students as part of their university studies. Many of our interns gained a permanent full time position with us after they graduated.


Our induction provides important resources and training on food safety, safety health and the environment, customer service, environmental essentials, and diversity and cultural awareness. Everyone receives an Employee Handbook that outlines our company policies, procedures, and terms and conditions of employment.

Technical Development

Our technical development training includes community topics, food safety, first aid, nutrition and hydration for aged care, forklift, responsible service of alcohol and software programs.

Professional Development

We offer many professional development training courses for our employees including Certificate IV in Frontline Management, Diploma in Hospitality, and programs in leadership, emotional intelligence, time management, management fundamentals, effective communication, conflict resolution and effective teams.

Development Plans for Career Growth

We conduct a training needs analysis and then tailor a personal development plan for each staff member.

Our performance review process ensures that clearly defined and achievable goals are set for you throughout the year, and we identify the support and training you need to achieve those goals. Succession Planning

To ensure a seamless transition if a manager leaves, we need to replace them as quickly as possible. Hiring someone new to Cater Care is costly and time consuming, so we identify successors for manager roles and develop them to be ready to step up if required. Our people already fit into our culture, share our values, and understand our business, so it makes sense that we hire from within.
